B-League Chairman Shimada shares his thoughts on what the B-League should be in the future, and gives us a direction for the B-League to grow forever in a capitalist society. (YouTube at the end of the text) Is it being devised with Deloitte as a strategic consultancy?
I will discuss three points from my own perspective.
①Each system of promotion and reduction based on management skills
Not by winning or losing, but by management power! I agree with you, but I feel that the most important aspect of management is the ability to attract customers. Many clubs have a sales portfolio in which sponsorship income accounts for more than 50%, but the ratio of ticket and merchandise sales can also be seen as a management indicator. SNS marketing efforts are already underway, with the ratio of distributions changing depending on the number of followers and other factors.
What I want to say is, the club itself should increase its corporate value (not too dependent on sponsors), I think that if the clubs themselves increase their corporate value (not too dependent on sponsors) and make them valuable enough to go IPO, we will see a different view of the world. (getting rid of the label “sports don’t make money”!)
I am wondering how the B-League will cooperate and differentiate itself from the professional leagues in other Asian countries (China, Taiwan, the Philippines, etc.) and how it will develop. As the professional leagues in each country aim to attract fans in the Asian region, I think they need to flesh out the strengths of the B-League and why it is the B-League of choice. (The B-League is already working on various initiatives such as the EASL.)
It is highly likely that the B-League will not be able to compete with China and Taiwan in terms of capital strength, so the advantages of having a club team in Japan should be emphasized to the ultra-wealthy in Asia (Japan is also rich in tourism resources), etc., and the B-League should be organized from various perspectives to create its own strengths. (Japan is rich in tourism resources.) If we can sort out our strengths from various perspectives and create a winning strategy, we will find a way to win. (Japan is rich in tourism resources.) (The world may be a tough place to win because of the NBA…)
③Broadcasting rights
I thought I shouldn’t talk about this too much…. The B-League has been SoftBank’s top partner since its inception, and SoftBank (BasketballLive) holds the B-League broadcasting rights. The topic here is the broadcasting rights fee for the B-League. The B-League is likely to become a dollar box as the number of fans increases due to the World Cup. There are many other companies that are targeting the B-League’s broadcasting rights, such as “DAZN,” although they are among those that have been associated with the league since its inception. The broadcasting rights fee will be League, of courseI sincerely hope that the B-League will handle it well, as it is an important fund for clubs and players as a distribution fee. (Publication of broadcasting rights fees, competition for values other than broadcasting rights fees, etc.)
